I have an '08 F250 V10 with the Torqueshift tranny, approx 10k miles. When I shift from forward to reverse sometimes the transmission "bangs" into reverse. It's actually quite startling and I can hear how the rear end takes it tough. Since I'm aware of the problem I make sure I've come to a complete stop before shifting and it still does it from time to time. If I had to take a guess at frequency of occurence I'd say 1 out of 20 shifts it happens. Sometimes I go a week or so before I notice it, sometimes it happens several times a day. Any ideas??
I have an '08 5.4L with about 6500 miles and it does it about as frequent as yours. On two occasions it has shuttered like letting the clutch on a manual out a little too fast.
08 with 10K miles and under warranty, won't the stealership help?
I haven't gone there yet, it's a pain to get to so I figured if it was an easy fix I'd try it, but I also wouldn't want to void a warrantee. I'll probably bring it up.
My 08 F250 4x4 makes the same clunk once in 10 times! I can not beleive its lack of grease in the driveline spindle. Its a differiant clunk than that.
Lack of grease will cause a clunk almost everytime.
Not always. I made this assumption after my accident when the d/s had pulled apart. Not enough grease upon reassembly and every now and then it would clunk, mostly with the brakes so I thought it was something in the axle. Some grease and it was all taken care of.
My 2008 F350 with the V-10/TS does the same thing. I recently had it in the shop for a couple of recall's and I mentioned this issue. When I picked up my truck I had a piece of paper that explained the condition as normal. I'll post it for you all to see.
19938 2003-2008 MULTIPLE VEHICLES WITH A TORQSHIFT TRANSMISSION - INTERMITTENT CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN DRIVE, REVERSE AND PARK AND/OR DURING 2-3 UPSHIFT
Some 2003-2008 F-Super Duty, 2003-2005 Excursuion, 2004-2008 E-Series, 2006-2008 F53 Motorhome Chassis, and 2006-2008 Low Cab Forward Vehicles equipped with a Torqshift transmission may exhibit some or all of the following clunk conditions: Clunk when shifting from drive or reverse; Clunk or pop upon initial engagement from reverse to drive at approximately 2-3 mph (3-5 km/h); Clunk during 2-3 upshifts. Verify that the customer concern fits one or more of these conditions. These specific clunk conditions may be intermittent and are characteristic of powertrain mechanical lash. Do not attempt repair.
Hope this helps some of you guy's from wasting your time making a service appointment.
Thanks for that post ENG...I know what a drive shaft slop clunk is, and this is not that. I can live with it! Its not near as annoying as the Dodge truck engine tick

i don't think they neccesarily mean driveshaft lash, more so internal to the trans perhaps. One of those things that calling it normal means it doesn't have to be fixed.
