05 Expedition P0340 code

05 Expedition P0340 code
Got the engine light last night and I had the parts store check it out. P0340 and she said sid something about both banks.
I know its a camshaft position sensor error. But 45 minutes of googling shows there is a service bulletin on this that may require a generator test requiring an oscilliscope. I also saw on one site this may be an issue with the PCM.
I was just going to replace the sensor but now I am thinking it needs to go to the shop. It is out of warranty, 56K miles.
Should I take it in to a shop or just try replacing the sensor and see if that fixes it? Will the code clear by itself if fixed or does it have to be reset?
Can most shops address this or do I need the dealer with thier oscilliscope?
i already dropped a grand into a torque converter and front tranny seal at 38K miles. Now this at 57K. I could kill the wife for not getting the extended warranty, my F350 does.
