F250 wiring...
I bought a 23'1978 Prowler Travel Trailer.
How can I tell if the unit is wired for back-up lights?
There are 5 wires per side.
left=2 white,2 green,1 red
right=2 white,2 green,1 brown
The trailer is equiped with a 7 post plug.(6 slots with center post)
On the trailer plug all the wires are connected to its respected spot...except the center which is the Yellow wire but is not connected. The yellow wire is in the harness at the plug but it does not show up at the tail lights.
I'm also trying to install a brake controller in the cab of my pick-up.
They say there is a plug on the truck under the dash(center) for the Controller and I did find one,a round plug. But have know idea what it's for.
The Reese Brake Controller I bought has 4 wires.
The plug on the truck was a 6 post plug so I had to change it to a 7 post plug...thats where it got ugly.
So here we go...
there are three pigtails at the back of the p/u.
1 Tee tail with 4 wires, yellow(LS),blue(BU),brown(RUNNING) and green(RS).This Tee tail is active...
2 round tails...1 with 3 wires, green, black and orange. This tail I could not get to respond with the truck running or not.
And 1 tail with 4 wires...2 small 1 yellow the other green,1 bigger green with a stripe and 1 big white. This tail I did get one prong to
respond, the running lights...I didn't probe it anymore thinking it was the same as the Tee tail.
So the 2 round tails were never probed any further to see what the others would do.
Bottom line is there's NO POWER to the back off this truck!!!
I can't beleive there's no power...am I missing something?
I did check out http://www.rverscorner.com/wiring/index.html
and will use the site to help me with the trailer...
I need to know how the truck needs to be wired.
Is there a site for info on wiring stimatics for a specific truck?
What about on-line truck manuals?
Does anyone on this site know what these pigtails are for?
So as far as I can tell no power..how do I run the wire for the charge to my plug?Do I run this from the Power Distribution Box?
Then there's the Brake control...
Any help would be appreciated.
I was just reading some other post...the one about dual batterries.
This truck is wired with dual battarries..
I have standard diagrams for trailer wiring at the ready.
Does this trailer really have B/U lights?

The truck is a 1994 F250 S/C 4x4 XLT Turbo Deisel
The trailer is a 1978 Prowler...with no back-up lights.
I took the other ones back and bought the correct ones.
In the trailer plug, the centre post does have a YELLOW wire to it but not connected. And the wires donot come to the back tail lights anyway.
I'm going out to test the round pigtail with 4 wires to see if it is a duplicate of the tee.
Do you know what those round pigtails would be for?
Also The truck is set up with dual batteries...
The small yellow is left signal & brakes and the small green is right signal & brake???Does that make sense?
The bigger green w/wht stripe is Running lights.
The big white wire I don't know what it does...no juice to it anyway.
The trailer should be wired to corresespond to this otherwise is has been wired to a special vehicle to thwart theft.

There's a RV Deep cycle battery on there as well...
So I need to run a charge cable to the plug(from the battery to the plug at back of pick-up) as well.
Would you know what those pigtails (on the back of the pick-up)are for that I mentioned?
The trailer is wired correct...it had me baffled because I was thinking there should be back-up lights, there isn't.
I now need to re-wire my truck to match the trailer...but as I said above I can't find a HOT wire in the 3 pigtails I mentioned.
The blue wire for the brakes should go to a single wire on the truck plug.
The wires at the lights are : White for ground,Green for Running lights, The other colours for signal lights.
I'm pretty sure I need a photo.
Could be a butcher wiring job.
Maybe name me all the electrical option's the trailer has.
Standard are:
Brakes,Break-away switch,Deep-cycle RV Battery,Fridge,12v Lighting,12v demand water pump.
Options:
A/C,Stereo system.
Can you trace any of the wires for me?

There was a plug under the dash for the Brake controller,I removed the Tee Tail ,the 2 round plugs at the back of the truck had everything else.
The charge wire to the plug is wired to a relay under the hood, there seems to be no power. In the relay box the one relay is there, but the other relay socket is pigtailed with a single wire???
Anybody know why this would be done?
I've left it there until I can figure out what its doing....

The crossover wire they used in the little junction box with the two relays was there to kill the battery charge to the plug...why?'
'..don't know, don't care.Where can I find diagrams showing me what is what in the power distribution box and the Relay boxes?
Thanks for your help.
