In either case, P0420 isn't going to cause any driveability problems (unless the converter is restricted due to contamination). I wouldn't worry too much about it unless the light comes back on, or unless you do experience any other driveability symptoms.

A very good thread to read and I always pay close attention to the posts from mazdarangerguyinstl. From what I've seen I'm debating on doing a maintenance replacement of the upstream O2 sensor on my 97 with the 2.3 since I bought it used and it is now at 106,000. Any advise or hints appreciated.
