Replacing Bed 80 F100 Question

Hi, first time poster here, long time reader.

I have a 1980 F100 Ranger L6 4.9L and I need to replace the bed due to severe rust. I am having a very hard time locating that exact year truck in my area. Do any of you guys know what other year truck beds will fit my truck if any?

Thanks greatly in advance.

Might have answered my own question. Went to LMC trucks and noticed they listed my model with 80-86. I can only assume this means these parts are interchangeable between these years for this model.

If in error please feel free to let me know.

If you would have searched, you would have found your answer - too many times to count.

Indeed I do know how to use a search function. And I did use it. Maybe I am not as verbose as some but I did not find the answer I was looking for using the search function. I am no forum newbie, but thank you so much for your critique I will be sure to write that down for next time. kk?

This as well as many, many topics has been discussed to death.

A little time looking through previous posts would have yielded many replies to the SAME question.

Please uncle.stosh your point has been made, and I had SAID BEFORE, I did use the search. Please, if you have nothing more to add to this topic other than your insistence on trying to make me look like a fool that does not know what SEARCH means.... Then PLEASE move to a different thread to offer your pearls of wisdom.

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but a 5 second search for "bed swap" yielded at least 6-8 replies including this one:

I believe you are correct in your assumption that the beds will all fit between 80 and 86, and I believe a few years later, if I'm not mistaken.
Good luck

Thanks very much gradrgy

The truck was left to me by my father. He passed away in March, and I am trying to restore the truck to it's former glory and your input has helped a lot. Just needed confirmation before I started putting the cash into the truck.

Thanks again.

Ok simmer down simmer down in here....

November a bed is the exact same as the one you have now between the years 1980-1986. Also a bed up to a 1991 will be a direct fit in but there is a slight difference but not noticeable unless you really look it will be the arch over your wheels. Another small difference is the taillights are a little shaped different to the contours of the bed but will fully work with your new bed as long as you pull off the wiring harness off your old bed.

This is a bed off a 1987 notice the arch over the wheels

This is the original bed(1985) which will be the exact same as you, and also notice the wheel well which is more flat than the 1987 and on..

Hope this helps November...

I was hoping that would be an option. Harder to find a old bed that is still in good shape. A newer bed however is a lot easier, so remains a great option. Really good to know that there is still a direct fit.

Thanks much for the information!

Also forgot to mention it is a shortbed. Assuming this makes no difference as long as I do not go Short to Long

Sorry about your loss November. I think it is a very comendable thing that you are doing with your truck. I also wanted to do the same with my dads 51 ford sedan, but health problems prevented it. Go ahead and fix it up like you know he would like it. You won't be sorry. Good luck.

Thanks gradrdy,

My father was a classic car restorer. The last car he did was a 1940 Pontiac Coupe. It was pretty smooth at the end. Unfortunately my father had a terminal illness and over the last 10 years he got real bad off, and his truck seriously deteriorated over that time as well. It would sometimes sit for years without being ran. Rust formed, paint cracked, faded and chipped, and the sun took it's toll on the interior.

I recently had the truck transported to my state (I live out of state from where my father lived) and my first move is to stop the progression of rust as well as getting the engine back into 100% working condition. I appreciate the input I have gotten as it will prove extremely useful.

I would like to apologize for my outburst in this thread to the readers. From my past readings on this forum, I expected a somewhat different welcome than what I received.

Anyway, I will be sure to put some pictures in my gallery today of it's current condition.
