Unhappy Water pump?

Today the water pump decided to take a leak, so guess what I get to do? After pricing the water pumps, I figured I would see what y'all thought about the remanufactured pumps opposed to a new pump? Any brands I should stay away from? Lastly, what is the recommended anti-freeze?

Thanks in advance!

Get a new water pump with a life time warranty. Remans. will probably have a 60/90 day warranty and they are just a pita to change. I got mine at Napa for around $100.00 with the life time warr.

And if you haven't changed your thermostat to a 203* now is a good time. You might also consider changing the stat housing as the stock housing is so thin it only has one (1) side (it's thin) and has a tendency to warp & leak.

Before you pull the old pump consider putting in a flush to break up the old SCA. Then refill with a anti-freeze and add the SCA or....Get an anti-freeze that already has it in their product. If you do your own mixing use distilled water.

Make sure that all of your hoses are in tip top shape. Now is the time to replace. JMHO

I would think so but read the containers. Get one that you can run for a short time then drain. Just remember that antifreeze and the cleaner are toxic and will attract and kill cats and dogs not to mention what it will do to small children.

Thanks Rog! Please forgive my ignorance but what is SCA? And what temp is the stock thermostat? And how will the 203 benefit?

Thanks again!

I put the 203 stat in my truck not too long ago while I was changing out the water pump and man it is awesome I can,t believe the difference it has made I also put in gauges so I could watch my correct temps it always runs at 200 I can feel the difference in power as the temp slowly comes up who would of thought a few degrees would make such a difference.

Click on this site and it will explain the stat better than I can.

If this doesn't work just go to www.dieselsite.com Go to manufacture and click on Dieselsite then surf thru the choices.

Coolant Article

This will explain SCA. After you read that click on the cooling system filter at the bottom of the page and there is more info and the proper way to install a coolant filter should you ever decide to do that.

Good luck

SCA Supplemental Coolant Additive. Our trucks have a problem with the cylinder walls pitting where the coolant comes in contact with it. The SCA coats the cylinder to keep this from happening. You can add it and matain the level by testing with fleetguard test strips or by a coolant with it in it.

Here is another site to help you along. The old film of SCA that is attached to the cylinder walls must be removed from time to time, (generally on coolant change) as an excessive build up retards cooling.
