I installed a CB this weekend and the instructions said that I need to determine if I've got a negitive or positive ground system. How do I know????? When I turn on my CB while I'm driving, it has a lot of engine noise coming thru the speaker.... Could it be becase I've got the wrong power cord connected? Instructions say I can use either the black or red cable depending on my electrical system type... I need helpp
thanks in advance......

You have a Negative ground(I haven't seen a pos. ground vehicle lately). If you hook it up the other way, you will blow the fuse or damage the unit. You should have red hooked to power and the black to the chassis of the car. As for noise, Ford's have lots of electrical noise. What does the noise sound like, popping noise, whining noise, etc?
Its a whining noise, I found a part number on this web site form Ford, but my local Ford Dealer doesn't have clue.... Its for a noise filter that list for 57$$$(F1PZ-18B924-A) I'm on my way to radio shack now to see if they have something that will work...

Radio Shack should have something. Audio shops sell cheap and expensive electrical noise filters that just go in to either the positive or negative lines (i forget which). I bought a noise filter at Summit Racing for $2 the last time I was there. I thought the MSD ignition might mess up my CB, but it turned out I didn't need it.
And I believe the capacitor found on older ignition coils helped reduce radio noise, as do good spiral wound sprak plug wires, and (I could be wrong here) most types of spark plugs (that meaning there are spark plugs out there that make noise worse).
