Well, its all personal preference. I got a complete system(duals) for an outstanding price with the muffler and i,m very happy. MBRP mufflers are straight thru so that was good for me. Again, its all personal preference...Before there was put together exhaust systems there was friends and muffler shops..

$60 for the down pipe is pretty good, is the rest or the system free? If it is then I would do it. As far as mufflers, if its stright threw is the same as no muffler at all with a better sound IMO. Plus do you have to buy the muffler? if so save the $$ and put on a straight pipe. What size you going with? 5" sounds bad azz. Have you heard the 5" system yet? for sound clips---- List of sounds
