I just took a look at my cat, it has a 3" outlet already. Kinda crappy welds on the outlet piping make me think it's a muffler shop mod done when the rest of the catback was installed. I'd bet that the bottleneck removal is why mine isn't very quiet, even with a muffler installed. The reason I keep bringing up Flowmaster mufflers is that I already have a 3" catback with a big body Flowmaster and the sound is good. Pretty quiet, but deep and throaty, with no Flowmaster resonance in the cab. If I didn't have a free 3 1/2 tailpipe on the way I'd probably just leave the 3", but free stuff is hard to pass up..

I like that muffler you linked, but there isn't a 3 1/2"..

Is a single 3" enough for a 460? Or will I get more power from a 3 1/2"?

hmmm. Yes, that would be a problem. The muffler that was linked earlier may be available in 3.5"? The website does mention inquiring if you don't see what you need? If they don't offer you a solution, A 3.5" Magnaflow would be my personal next choice. I feel that the 460 can certainly benefit from 3.5" tubing. Actually, I wanted to go with 4" aftermarket diesel tubing, but like yourself, I ran into this 3.5" tailpipe off a Ford Diesel for next to nothing, so I went that route.

You are definitely going the right direction. I like the way your thinkin'.
