If you have absolutely no response from the window motors, check for 12V and good ground at the motor when you get the door panel off. PW switches and relays are high fail items. Motors tend to warn you they are going out with slow performance.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Jul-02 AT 07:56 PM (EST)]Power window motors and door locks on most Fords do not use the motor ground to operate. They use a reversing polarity arrangement to operate. One polarity on the two wires on the motor will make it go one direction and by changing the polarity the motor will go the other direction. In other words the motor will still run if you unbolt it from the door and have no ground. Therefore a ground is not important for operation.
if you look at the door with the panel off, around where the motor is you will see 3 little indintations. if you feel around the head on the motor you can feel the heads of the bolts that hold it in. the little indintations should line up with the bolts. drill holes on these spots, i think 3/8, then a 5/16- 1/4 drive socket or a nut driver will fit in and you can get the bolts out. put a wedge in beside the window so it doesnt fall on your arm while you are working on it. soon as you do one, you will be an expert at it.
You are correct. Even alot of the aftermarket PW kits work as you describe. My advice was generic in nature. I have seen so many components replaced without diagnosis and the problem turns out to be a bad ground, switch etc. Sorry if I caused confusion.
looks like I am going to have some fun fixing this problem. I have to wait until the weekend to get to it, but will try that, and if I need more, I will post.. Thanks.
