Mine will/is get(ting) coated with epoxy primer (SPI) and then sprayed with SPIs bedliner. The spray gun from Baker PBE is around $30 for it.
I intend to spray the parts in pieces, so as to not coat the bolts. They will be stainless.
A regular gun will not spray that thick stuff.
Yeah, I figured a regular spray gun might not do the job and that is one reason I questioned anything that would come out of a spray can. I figured an airless sprayer might do it. If you can, tell me what Baker PBE is or give me a link. Thirty bucks is not much for a spray gun. I will probably be using epoxy primer on stuff too. That stuff alone is pretty durable. I am definitely interested in that gun.
I used the Duplicolor on my 89 Ch&vy bed with good results, picked it up at Pep-Boys( local autoparts chainstore). Scuffed all surfaces with 100 grit paper, blew it off with compressed air, swiped it with a grease and oil remover, then used a 2" roller and 2" disposable paint brush to spread and apply material. Leveled out real nice....but to be honest, it's not as tough as Rhino-liner.
Motorcycle owners have been using Rhino-liner type protection on the underside of fenders to protect some of their High-dollar paint-work since the stuff came on the scene...nothing aggravates a rider as much as seeing their paint being destroyed, whether from below by stones and the resulting starburst, or by some knuckle-head dropping stuff on it from above...
I've planned on using some product in the wheelwells, under cab , under running boards and even taping off the top of the exposed ribs on the running boards where most foot traffic will quickly take the paint off.
Most of my supplies I am getting locally through a body work supply store though.
I am currently using the SPI epoxy, but do not have the bed liner kit or the gun yet. $$$$ that I do not have currently.
Thanks Brian,
I will be checking out those links. I understand the money thing. It takes me so long to get some things done that time is often as much of a factor as money.
