I know its prolly on the site somewhere, but i am new. I was wondering if anyone around here has done that.
I was thinking of taking a lightning motor (newer 5.4 supercharged) and putting it in a reg cab 4x4 Ranger.
Anyone have any clue on how difficult or expensive this could be?
It's possible but very very difficult and expensive. They make a kit to put a 5.0L in your truck, you could put a built 5.0 with about 300-350hp for pretty cheap.

If you want something faster than a Ranger, then it would be
cheaper, safer, and more reliable, to buy something already
designed to be faster.....
Did the current Truckin mag inspire you to ask that? If not then get the current issue november of Truckin they have the ranger with the lightning motor that a division of ford built. The explain a few issues that came up. The last post made sense you can get a late 80's mustang for a decent price keep it stock and tweak the suspension or add some mods and you have a high 12-13 car that would be dependable. But that is not what you asked, I know of nonone installing a new lightning motor into a ranger other than that article. Can it be done is limited only to your budget. Good luck
don't waste your time with a 4-cammed paper weight. Justin said it right, you can build a 5.0 with a heck of a lot more power than the 5.4 cam make for a lot less money, and be more dependable and get better gas milage. A 351W would even be easier to fit in your truck, they're actually narrower than the 5.4's. How much were you looking at paying for a 5.4 Lightning engine? Cut that in half, subtract a hundred dollars, and build a 351W that will embarrass the mod-motor junkies at the track. That magazine article is just more propoganda from Ford in a hopeless attempt at making people think that their newer engines are better, which is most definately not true. Stick with Windsor power. but then that would make you just like everyone else, man stick with your plan, do your own thing, be different , unique. Thats why im building a Alumin. head strocker motor to go in Bronco, with full roll cage. 450-500 BHP maybe Nitrous i could drop this n a STANG and haul some serious A.., but that would make me like everyone else. Good Luck with you project!! DW
