351c transmission
302, then 351 Clevelands were used in Australian assembled F-Trucks right up until 1983. I should know, I own a SWB 83 F100 truck with a factory 351C, and my LWB '76 F100 had a factory 302C that I replaced with a 351C from an 80's truck. Ford Australia was building 351Cs locally for the Falcon large sedan until that era, and the local F-Trucks benefitted from that.
So bob_351 has a truck with a swap that thousands of trucks here ran here from factory.
My '83 has 3.9 gears with the C6, and I'm doing 3000rpm at 100kph (62mph). It's not a daily driver, and it runs LPG so I'm not concerned about the higher revs, but if you prefer lower revs over performance Bob then I'd get a lower diff gear set put in the rear rather than swap out the tranny. The C6 is a tough box and well suited to the engine/vehicle combo.
