I just purchased a 05 excursion that did not have a dvd player installed from the factory. It does have a cd-6, I want to upgrade to the factory dvd, but don't know if the wiring is in the cieling or if it is possible to add it easily?
I doubt you will tie into the factory wiring for an aftermarket install. They are pretty easy to install. The hardest part I've had with them is building up brackets to hold the unit up and still. The wiring is pretty easy, powers, ground, and audio.
I want to buy the factory overhead consule. There is one for sale on feebay. I was wondering if the wiring harness is plug and play or if it was difficult
It's not difficult. Do you have the Johnson controls overhead rail system? I didn't think the X got that.
One thing I would be concerned with is how it interfaces with your stock radio. You should have the CD-DJ feature in your in dash 6 disc changer, but I don't think the external changer port will be wired for the overhead. So your probably going to have to run the wires for that connector or add your own FM modulator. Power and ground might be up there ready and waiting, but I doubt anything else is.
