Wrecked 01 F250
Well I guess it was bound to happen with all the highway driing I do. Last night ran over a retread laying on the road. I couldn't see it due to wet roads and the spray coming up from other drivers.
Anyway, cut the left rear tire which caused the rearend to go left and with the wet roads probably a little hydroplanning thrown in put me into the guard wires (like guard rail except with posts and wires) They did the job they were designed to do. Kept me from going into oncoming traffic and didn't throw me back into traffic on my side either. However, the wire and the 8 posts that I took out did a number on the truck..Front and rear bumpers, front fender, running board, both rims and tires on the left side, and the bottom of the bed both in front and rear of the rear tire.
Took it to body shop today to get the process rolling for the adjuster etc to do their thing. Body shop owner said it would probably be around $7-9K for repairs (Ouch) From everyone's experience am I looking at the truck being totaled or not?
Thanks

You have to remember these trucks are still worth 12000-18000 with 150K miles on them. The insurance companies won't total them until the cost of repair approaches the value of the vehicle.

I dont know what junkyards are like in Arizona, but around here, you cannot find a superduty truck. All the body shops seem to be rebuilding them, and thats obviously backed by the insurance companies in most cases. Good chance youll get it repaired, instead of totaled. I know when I wanted to get a new short bed for mine (rotted out crossmembers) it was 3,000 for one in the SAME condition as mine! So I had to repair mine. If you think about it, its really probably better they repair YOUR vehicle, then to purchase another, and not know the vehicle history. Least in my oppinion

I think they'll fix it. Even though the market is in the toilet, the book values for PSD's seem to be holding strong. I think it all depends on the insurance company... I've seen some lightly wrecked trucks that got totalled and ones that were basically toast rebuilt. If you've got a lot of blood/sweat/tears into yours I'd hope they will fix it so you don't have to go through it all again.

The 50% depends on the vehicle and who your adjuster is. Some of them are more leinent than others.
