Won't start when cold
1989 Bronco 8 cylinder doesn't like to start cold. It usually (until this last time) eventually starts and when warm restarts just fine. Now it's not starting at all. I assume I am getting a spark since it always started well warm. Haven't checked anything yet, hoping you all might know where to begin. Thanks for any help.

I had a little time today to look at the bronco. When I sprayed starter fluid in it it was firing. I guess my problem is in the fuel system. The guy at NAPA thought it was probably the in-tank fuel pump. When I turn the key to start it does not make the whirring noise, but the pressure fuel pump makes a click after a second or two. Any idea on where to go from here?

It could be that the fuel pressure is getting lost when it cools down, like its draining back into the tank. Aint it like wen your tryin to start a carberuated truck when its cold? It will start fine when warm because the fuel is stil there and also because hot fuel expands and increases pressure. Might try to look for a check valve or somehing between the fuel rail and pump, or it could be that the O rings on the fuel injectors are leaking and releaseing the pressure. Could be the in fuel primer pump. They are known to go bad and it takes a little time for the fuel to get sucked up by the inline fuel pump up by the motor.
