just noticed today that the temp gauge was pegged at a drive thru waiting for my food.
shut it down til i got my food then started driving and it cooled down to a little above normal
On my way home it heated up but cooled down when i got on the Hwy
also cooled down when i turned off the A/c
I might add it is 95 degrees here w/ the heat index above 100
5.4 99 w/ 144000
what should i look at first?
as i usually fix most things on this truck myself
thermostat?
Sounds like your radiator fan isn't running. Did you check to see if it is?
Above 35 mph there is enough air being forced through the radiator making the fan useless at that point. This could explain why it cooled down when you got on the highway.
Alloro
That is not nessessarily true, if the thermostat where say rusted to the point that the
part that moves up and down to allow the flow of fluid thus cuasing a restricted flow than your temp guage would fluctuate, This very thing happened to me, and was I glad that all the parts were retrievable and not sent through the system.
