Dimming dash and headlights
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger with a 2.3L 5spd. Whenever I come to a red stop light the truck's interior and exterior lights dim sometimes. I notice it win I first apply the clutch and when the engine RPMs settle down under 1,000. Do you have guys have this issues with your Ranger? Thanks in advance for your advice and comments.

You might want to go to Auto Zone or a similar parts store and have them check your battery and charging system. Either the alternator is not putting out suffient current or your battery is on the way out. What does your voltage meter do when the engine is idling compared to the engine running at higher rpms?

Battery is only one year old.
Thanks for the help. I replaced the battery last year in July. I have noticed the voltage meter usually stays in the middle of the gauge. I am a amateur radio operator and my radio does pull some current. Last time I turned it on it read 12.2 Volts with the engine not running. Where could I get a high current alternator from?

If you are looking for a higher output alternator, an auto parts supplier should be able to help you out. First though, do some testing to determine the cause of your problem. It could be as simple as a poor ground somewhere in the system.
