hello.
I have a mallory dual point distributor on my 351w. I have a ballast resistor wired between the power from the igniton switch to the coil and i keep burning the resistors up. Does anybody have any ideas why I keep burning these up, any help would be appreciated. thanks.
What kind of ballast resistor and what watt rating is it?? It could be burning up from the heat generated by the voltage drop. Do you have it installed in a well ventilated place? The more airflow over and around it the better.
In the past I have had good luck with an Chrysler resistor I will try and find the part number but everything is packed for the up coming move and I havent "modified" my latest truck yet so I havent needed to get one.
Sounds like the wattage rating is too small for your coil. If the one you use is cheap, here is one way to do it. Get four of them, put two in parallel. Connect the other two in parallel and connect the two sets in series. This will give you the same resistence with a higher wattage rating. You can also buy industrial type resistors from places like Newark electronics.
Hey Sparky, where are you moving to? Moving is a pain.
