Hpop Problems

I posted earlied regarding "EDGE FILTER" and another regarding my HPOP oil leak.

I ordered a rebuilt HPOP and got it in Monday. Truck ran fine, but continued to leak oil excessively. Traced it to HPOP. THought I had reuined the gasket when I installed it...Nope...

On the side of the HPOP there is a csting flaw...A small hole that goes all the way through the casting under the IPR. This is on a 97 PSD. All the other pumps I have and all pictures have NO hole in this area. This is the area where it appeared that hte oil was flowing from.

If it were not for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Now the Diesel service does not have another pump to replace it with.....

Has anybody ever dealt with BLUERIDGE DIESEL SERVICE in SALEM VA?

I would have hopped that the Remanufacture ofthe pump would have seen this hole and discarded the casting....

Did not notice it when I put the IPR on....when I did notice it, it looked like a casting flaw, raised area...but closer inspection showed a small hole in the flaw....

Now I am out of service for another week probably...
I wish I had the info on the reman that did the pump that started all this...
the and I'd have a serious conversation. Can't find it in my records..and that was only last summer.

Man, I've been watching your woes with these pumps and I sure wish I had an answer for you. The only option I can even think of is to email Joey at Terminator Engineering. Tell him you have a perfectly good pump with a jacked up case. Odd are he'd have a good case and would swap the internals for alot less than buying another one. Seriously, I know when I say Terminator, you think man that's gonna cost. But he's really down to earth, and I bet he'd work with you. Tell him Cody from Death Row Diesel sent you.

But on a high note, and I know this is not a joking matter.....I do have a stock pile of gear bolts and washers if you need a spare. LOL I couldn't help myself... I hope you and your family are doing well, and I hope you get this figured out because I know it's been a thorn in your side. And honestly, if I had another pump, I'd just send it to you. Good luck man.

Cody

Rubber duck...
Thanks ...

I inspected the pump closer and it turns out somebody DRILLED a hole in the side where the main wabble pump is and then put a pop rivet in it.
This pump was remaned by Delphi and distributed by Blueridge Diesel in Salem Va.

I now know what size check ball will work. I did some measuring and determined that 0.185" diameter ball bearing may work. I got one and put it in the original pump that had the O-Ring fail and YES it workes.

The bogus pump is on its way back to where it came from. If I knew how to post a picture, I'd post one of the pump.... They had a 1 year warranty...did not argue when I sent them pictures of the hole

Most aggrivating part is that I purchased nearly $100 in gaskets O-Rings and sealer this morning thinking that was the problem.

Put the ball in the OLD pump and went ahead and used the new gaskets and installed the old pump. Primed it for about 30 seconds and it fired right up when I turned the key on.

Rubber Duck...I STILL HAVE A BAG FULL OF SPARE BOLTS.......LOL....
I did have to helicoil one of the pump bolts...I did the other one when I replaced the pump last year....Now both sides are helicoiled and will take the correct torque....

I am becomming an expert on these pumps. Out and in, in less than 1 hour....
Can nearly do it blind folded....except for that darn bolt in the gear...LOL

Thanks for chiming in...

Rubber Duck and anyone else that may know...

Is there any advantage to putting the cross over line between the two head galleys?
I saw some information on this and was wondering if it had any advantages...If I did it, I'd use steel line, not braided so ther would be no possibility for expansion of the braided line under the high pressures.

Thanks

I do have the metal one and every thing is fine but after getting it I heard the braided ones work better because they do expand a Little witch helps reduce pressure spikes From the HPOP and that will help your engine run smother. Don't know how true it is but you might want to think about that.

The metal line is better for a couple reasons, the rubber lines have been know to fail in the past....plus, the purpose of the HPX line is to stop the pressure drop that occurs right after 2 cylinders have fired on one bank of the engine it balances the pressure from the right to left banks. The rubber does give a bit under those extreme pressures allowing a pressure drop you trying to get rid of.

I have the tymar HPX which is the braided. It did quiet the motor some and made it smoother. But what Jim says makes alot of sense too.
