Tranny Problem?

I mentioned yesterday about my truck having no forward gears, but had reverse. Garage priced me $3500 for new Jasper tranny installed. I did talk with a guy that works for Louisville Forge, they make the trannys for the louisville ford truck manufacterer, F250 and F350. He said he think the tranny is fine, it should not be OK one day and bad the next. He thinks the springs are sticking or the filters are plugged. Any thoughts?

i'll wait for the tranny expert to chime in ha ha but i think you could maybe get a bts trans for some more change... maybe some1 that has had to buy one can tell you the price tag on those. the way they talk is that will be the last trans you buy ha! but im thinking like you are i mean no signs leading up to the dump that sounds kinda fishy i think

The BTS runs about $4400 give or take a few hundred.

Yeah they say after the three year warranty is up all you have to do is take it back in and he still fixes for free.

Jasper? Jasper?

Good joke. What is the punch line? I wouldn't trust Jasper anything in my car. For $4100 plus shipping, you won't have to worry any more. If mine breaks in 2 yrs, I have to pay for R&R. After 2 yrs, I pay for R&R plus shipping. Either way, it is a free repair.

BTS is the way to go

Edit: maybe you can price out a Ford Reman. I'd use them way before I use anything else from Jasper. As a paperweight, Jasper is good.

Jaspers and ATS trannys don't have good track records for these trucks.

I would have to say I would prefer an ATS over Jasper. Only one that is in the same class is probably Aamco. Now, if you are going to fix the truck and sell it, Aamco is a good choice.
