Unhappy Hard Start When Warm

I've posted this before, and I'm still having a hard time figuring this out. My 99 PSD starts fine in the morning and runs perfect but once it is warm and I try to start it again it will just crank. I have to let it sit for at least a half hour and it will still crank for about 10 to 20 seconds before it will start. The oil has been changed, the HPOP res is full, I tested the icp, its fine, and the fuel filter has been changed. If anyone out there has any idea what could be causing this problem please chime in. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

How did you test the ICP? What pressure are you seeing when cranking when it's struggling to start? Did you monitor IPR % during crank? Is it safe to assume it's not too cold where you live right now?

I changed the fuel filter about 5000 miles ago, I was having the same problem then. I was told I could test the icp buy pulling the plug from the icp and if the the engine shuts off then the icp is working properly. I don't have anything to test the pressure so I don't know the pressure while cranking. I live in sunny California, 90 deg. I'm stumped.

Is there something inside the ipr that could cause this, therefore needing a new one?

Sorry you were misinformed. If you unplug the ICP the truck computer infers the pressure reading from other components. Go unplug your ICP then try and start your truck. The PCM will assume a default ICP level and the truck will start like it always does.

Remember clean, full oil, of the proper grade is vital to these trucks, so make sure your oil is good. It sounds like you may need to get this on a scanner that can do some live data monitoring to help you track this down.

A bad IPR is something that can make your truck stall or not start, but I'd hate to see you start throwing parts (and money) at it hoping to fix your issue.

I pulled the icp connection and it won't start. I'll probably have to take it to the dealer because all I have is a scan gauge and its not pulling any codes.

The dealer wants 160.00 just to look at it.

That doesn't sound right. If you plug the ICP back in does it start? Or do you have a no start situation now?

Yes the dealership is expensive when they do anything. Your alternative options are 1) post your location and hope a fellow member with a scanner lives close by. 2) Find a GOOD local independent shop with the proper equipment to do the same work for less than the dealer, or 3) If you plan on keeping the truck for a while, invest in your own scan tool AutoEnginuity PC Scan Tool (USB)

It only takes a couple of dealership scans to pay for itself.

Where are you from? Maybe there is a member with a scanner that can pull the codes for you.

My wife just got back with the truck and its hard to start once you shut it down, I'll have to wait a few hours for it to start with a 5 sec crank. I live in Rialto, CA, if anyone is close by I would really appreciate the help.
