Temperature Guage 1949 6V
The previous owner had converted the truck's electrical system (somewhat) from 6v to 12v. The temperature guage is original and constantly reads hot. The after market guage shows the temperature to be well within the normal operating range. I want to be able to bring the truck back to original condition, or as close as I can with an engine tranny combo from a 79. Would a resistor encourage the guage to read properly with a 12 volt system? Thanks for your help.

Measure the resistence of the sender at normal operating temp. Add the same value resistor in series with the sender. Another way is to build a voltage regulator to go from 14v to 7v. Look up a National Semiconductor LM317. A small box and a couple of resistors is all it takes.
