Quick question.

Hey ya'll one quick question. I'm looking at buying an 89 150, 4X4, 5.8, auto, Xcab, 250000 miles. The kicker is that it was rolled. It is only gonna be a doner truck and then I'm gonna part it out. Ok Ok to the question ya'll are dying for me to ask. How much do u think it is worth. I did a KBB check and 2000 was if it is in fair condition. Thank you

I'd guess about $450 based on this:

Demolition Scrap Metal and Salvage News U.S.A

$222/ton for crushed autos.

It's rolled & 250,000 miles. What's not broke is worn out.

Sure, you can salvage a lot and rebuild what's worn out, and the market value of that labor is what, $90/hour?

You assume the risk that you can turn it for less, and you probably will. But the seller of this wreck doesn't get in on the profits, so pay him as little as you can, but no more than this. The crushed auto body price is probably generous.

IMO, not a scrap dealer or auto restorer, nor do I play one on TV, ymmmv, not insured by fdic.....

Thank you for the reply. Not quite what i was expecting. This was a running driving truck. Low speed rollover. I'm not looking to restore the old peice but salavage the virgin engine and trans along with all the injection wiring and computers for my 70 project. With a doner truck i can just swap it all over and then part out or scrap the rest. Just wanna know ball park figure so i can offer a fair price. Not wanting to screw him but not wanting to screw my self either. maybe a better question. What would the 5.8 complete buildable, all injection and wireing and computers and and relateed components go for.
Thank you.

What he said.

It's worth scrap price, or just under it thats all. Salvage what you can parts wise to make it worth your time. Otherwise its not worth that. Keep in mind it will cost you to move it.

OK, it ****WAS**** a running driving truck. Does it still run and drive?
If it does, who would buy it to drive it that way?

It has 250,000 miles. While this is no record mileage, it is at least at the limit we expect for a gasoline engine/light duty truck. It's worn, if not all the way, almost all the way.

The screw job the present owner suffered was the roll over, nothing to do with you. If he gets offers over scrap price, perhaps you could match it, or move on to the next wrecked truck.

We're all sorry the guy lost his truck. If he didn't have insurance, he absorbs the loss, not the rest of us, and you don't have to step up for it either.

Call a salvage yard pretending to own the truck. Make it sound really good and ask what they'd offer you.

you are talking questionable value in body parts. tranny core numbers are 175, engine core numbers are 200-250. there is some money in the wiring as complete harnesses as they are just not available - more so if trailer tow and dual tanks are included.
