I just replaced my whole A/C system. It's topped of with freon(2.1 lbs) and the compressor pressures read as they should. Everything is brand new except for the condenser. So, my problem is it only cools to about 57-65 degrees. Now, living where I do and it being the middle of summer reaching 100+ degrees everyday i would really like for to work. Not to mention the money I spent. So, what im wondering is what could be causing this to not cool as it should with everything working as it should??? Any ideas??
What you have to look at is total cooling load--If it's 120ºF and blazing sun, you would need one heckuvan A/C to get 40ºF air out of it. If you replaced your old R12 system, but kept it the same size and used R134a, you won't get as much cooling--R134a is less effective than R12. Newer vehicles with R134a systems from the factory hold more refrigerant than a comparable vehicle from the R12 days.
Which engine does your truck have? You said you replaced everything? Did you make sure the evaporator box has the silver heat shielding on it? I know on my straight six the exhaust manifolds are close to that evaporator box so the heat shielding probably keeps the temperature down a few degrees in there. To be honest though, that's about the cooling i get. I think 60 degree air feels great on any hot day.
