Need source for a 78 E-150 throttle cable

None of the local box stores or NAPA even has a listing.

Any ideas?

Carl

I see these vans in junkyards more than any other vehicle. That's not to say that anything is wrong with them, hence them ending up in yards, I'm just saying they're everywhere. That is the first place I would look. Worse comes to worse you can fab one from a Lokar cable.

...or even worse, my Ford dealer had one for my F150 a few years ago. I suspect these sponsors might have a line on one, they resell lots of stuff.

Your Econoline has a 300 engine, correct?

D5UZ9A758A .. Accelerator Cable ~ 30 1/2" long ~ Obsolete / Fits: 1975/80 Econoline 300 I-6 only. 1981 and later is different.

Don Sanderson Ford in Glendale AZ has two. Sanderson's phone number: 1-623-842-8682

This is the only Ford dealer that has any.

No seller of obsolete Ford parts has any.

Memo to FTE member srercrcr: I found it because I have the same parts catalogs the dealers use, and I have access to the Ford dealer parts locator system.

I know this is a long shot beyond all long shots given the age of this post etc. I have a 1979 club wagon and i'm looking for the same cable as mine just broke. If you are still a member and this guy has one in stock (Fingers crossed and would be awesome) PLEASE PLEASE let me know. Thanks a million for any and all help! Gary.

I think the good news is that in the time frame the vehicle was built Ford was using a "corporate design" on all their throttle cables, the length being the determinant of which one fits your vehicle. On the gas pedal side they have a swedged button over a nylon clip that snaps into a slotted hole on the end of the pedal lever, and on the carb side they have a snap-on ball socket that fits the carb lever ball stud. So your Ford dealer can probably find a cable that will be long enough to route to your carb, especially if you bring him/her the old one.
Short of that, an aftermarket universal cable, such as Lokar, can be obtained from places like Jegs or Summit. "Universal", meaning some minor bracket mods may be required.
