I have a 98 EB Expedition and am wondering if the light switch and dimmers control the instrument panel and radio/compass seperately. My compass and radio lights up at night and can dim, but my instrument cluster (dash) is not lit at all, yet I have seen it come on for a second or two on occasion. Is there an easy way to check this switch. I tried removing the cover (about 8 or so screws), but I couldn't uncrew 1, maybe its stripped. Any ideas on how to check the switch?? I already checked the fuses inside. Has anyone had a similar problem??Thanks, Boffah!!
I have the same problem with my 98 EB 4x4. Just started up a week ago. Original owner and has not had this problem before.
Did you figure yours out?
I have checked fuses. Dosen't appear to be a short or grounding problem as they do not flutter when hitting bumps or shutting the doors, just flicker at will, even with the engine off just sitting in the driveway. Anyhow I am beginning to think it's a relay.
It WAS the light switch, I got a new one of the internet... I think somewhere like fordparts.com or similar.. it was $40-50.
Easy to remove, take a thin screwdriver (like for repairing eyeglasses), and slide it in from the left, push in, and pull the switch housing out. Thats it.
