Installed Trans Temp
I installed a B&M trans temp guage on the output line of the tranny. So far I am seeing 150 on normal driving with empty bed and without towing. I can get it to around 175 in aggressive driving/shifts and it's been above 90 outside all this week. I have a larger cooler and bypassed the radiator cooler. Does those temps seem normal?
That is because the sensor is right on the output of the converter where the temps are the highest from fluid shear.
Don't worry about the temp unless it runs over 250 for extended time intervals then you have to be concerned about changing the fluid much more ofter due to breakdown..
Your gross combined weight is in the 11,000 lb + range so expect the fluid to heat up pretty good.
I have a fan cooled cooler that is set to come on at 185.
This helps cool at low road speeds as well as cools the engine bay at shut down. Usually runs about 5 to 8 minutes after shut down depending on the outside temp.
Good luck.
I was just at the recycler last week and the truck weighs 5,060 lbs. empty. I cant wait to go back there with 1,000 lbs of junk in the bed to see how it heats up. There is a long hill to get there and I was always curious to see what the tranny is doing. Since I put alot of work into it, the guage is a must have.
