ok i have a 1990 ford f150 302 i have replaced the positive battery cable going to the starter solenoid. when i start it if its cold it will always start but if its been runnin for a half hour or longer some times it does not want to roll over almost like the batery is dead. i replaced the postive cable cause it was corroded i was just wondering how long is the ground cable and if its better to replace with 2 gage wire like i did with the postive cable
ford man, it is always a good idea to replace both positive and negative wires at the same time with good quality cables. if you build your own with the heavy welding wire it will increase the load carrying capacity. but remember to use new good quality cable and connectors with a good attachment method.
My engine had the same trouble starting when hot, come to find out it was a worn bearing on the tooth end of the starter, when it got warm it exspanded or something, I don't know what exsactly I was told but when I replaced it never happened again. That may also be part of the problem.
