I have a socket welded to a bar that I use to remove the pulley on alternators. A allen wrench goes thru the socket to hold the shaft while the nut is loosened. I had one that I could not break free, thought I was going to snap off the allen wrench.
I then tried my impact wrench. I held the pulley with a glove on one hand. The nut came right off in two seconds, still scratching my head on how easy it come off. If you haven't rebuilt an alternator before, give it a try. $13 bucks for the kit!
Yes to change the conacts is easy and cheep. But does that kit come with the diode trio. Have you changed these? If you can soder good then it can be done but not your average do it yourselfer.
