Does anyone have a diagram or photo of the shift linkage for the column shift? I have a book that shows the Z piece in the front and a buddy said it goes in the back. Needless to say I can only shift between 1st and 2nd. Can't get into reverse or 3rd.

The shift lever is binding up. A very common problem with an EZ fix.
Look under the hood at the bottom of the steering column. There are two selector levers located there where the shift rods from the trans connect.
In each of those levers is a plastic bushing & insulator. They are worn or missing...which causes the shift lever to bind up.
The parts are still available from Ford. One kit does both levers.
