I have a 97 F 150 v6 with 50000 miles and the engine has blown a rear engine seal. This happened after the dealer replaced a timing chain seal. Any connection? I have heard rumors that engines were bad in this truck. Do I have any recourse? Of course I am out of warranty. Also had to have the Pittman arm replaced, what is it and why did it go bad?
I don't think they could have done anything, while changing the timing cover seal, that would cause the rear main to leak.
The Pitman arm is attached to the output shaft of the steering box. When this shaft rotates, the Pitman arm turns, and moves the centerlink side to side. The Idler arm is on the oppostie end of the centerlink from the Pitman arm and mimics the movement of the pitman arm to hold the centerlink in alignment. Tie rods connect the center link and spindle knuckle.
