Piston Slap....fixed?

What year did they fix the "piston slap" on the 5.4L. I have had my 01 for about 5k of its 90k and it sounds like the slap at cold startup. But once the engine gets hot, it goes away. It doesn't use any oil in the 3k miles between changes either.

All the 2V's can get it I don't know if the 3V's do or not.

My 2001 5.4 F150 started this around 30K miles. The dealer wouldn't do anything about it saying that it wasn't a "real" problem. I’ve been running very expensive oil ever since for my own piece of mind and other than the annoyance and embarrassment of that diesel sound at start-up, it hasn’t been a real problem. Maybe the oil helped, maybe not, but I need this truck to go another 100K miles, so I’ll need all the help I can get.
