Realistic Trade

Considering a trade in for a 2008/2009 F250. Just curious what would be a realistic trade expectation on a 2006 crew cab, 5.4L, XLT with all the bells and wistles.

Ford was cutting production of the trucks due to fuel prices. Get what you want in a new one and don't let them sell you short on your trade.

Market

I have not done much checking but is there much of a market for used F250s? I would assume dealers would hold back on trades if they could resell the truck.

Ouch

Just checked KBB...showing $15K on a trade....

Sorry Ford, can't buy new with this kind of trade in on a 2006!

I was at the dealer today to get a trade value on my 06 f250 diesel fx4, with 32000 miles. they offered me 20,000. Said that they were so over stocked, plus the auctions prices were low. Needless to say, i still own a 06 f250..)

The only thing about kbb is the dealers are even paying that amount. Mine in kbb is almost 23000 and they still only offered me 20000. I did hear an ad on the radio today about a dealer paying 125% of kbb value but that was for Hyundi or some ohter pos vehicle..

Most dealers just want to pay auction prices for any trade-in. And on a recent model
like your 06, they will say diesels aren't selling and offer you a ridiculous low price.
I would try to hang on to it a while, since diesel fuel is coming down and PSD prices should be better in a few months.

Good luck

The reality is that used vehicles values are completely supply/demand driven.

And right now, demand is at an extremely low level while supply is high. Translation: value has plummeted.

It will come back once folks re-adjust to fuel prices and re-adjust their lifestyles. But for now, it sucks.
In my area, dealers won't even consider trade ins of anything that gets less than 25 mpg - they've got plenty and can't move them.

Your only chance is to find a dealer with a huge overstock of new trucks that have sat for a long time and is desperate to move them. In which case he may offer you a drastically reduced sell price on the new, or and artificially high trade in if you pay MSRP. Regardless, you can't get anywhere near as good a deal as you could just 12 months ago.

Yeah, that's what most consumers are concluding. It is going to be an excrutiatingly tough year for the truck manufacturers.

The silver lining is for those of us that have been wanting to buy a truck but do not need to sell an old one to get it! It is absolutley a buyers market today - especially if paying cash.
By plan, I am perfectly "out of sync" with the purchasing trends of America. I purchased an economy vehicle three years ago, and a big truck this year. Ended up getting both for ridiculously low prices!
