High beam switch

Has anyone every tried to convert their high beam switch on the searing colloum to one on the floor. My dad's old blue 84 f-150 had one and i still wonder today why ford went away from this. every time i hit the high beams on my explorer i can sitll hear that click it made.

High beam switch

I think they moved the switch to keep it out of the water/mud/salt etc brought in on your boots. Also it could have been a safety issue if the theory is the column switch is easier to find...but those are just my rambling thoughts.
You could probably retrofit the switch if you wanted, just need the wiring diagram, some splices, the time, the desire,and of course a switch.

High beam switch

Basically they did it to save money, in many ways. One way, it helps use less wire length and smaller wire by including a simple circuit in a "multi-function" switch as Ford likes to call them.

High beam switch goes out on the floor - $3
High beam switch goes out on the column - $40

After doing dozens for Ford recalls, I got it down to 15-20 minutes depending on the truck for a multi-function switch. On my 1971 F-100 with rust and whos know what covering the switch - it took 5 minutes tops for the floor high beam switch including picking the right socket.

Nothing like progress!
