After my draw tite timed controller took a dump due some shorted wires, i figured it was time to upgrade. After fixing the wiring problems, i got the Tekonsha Voyager all hooked up and adjusted and took the camper for a quick drive around town and what a difference. the inertia system works flawlessly with my truck/trailer combo and i have never had the trailer brakes work so effectively. has anyone else had any experience with this unit? if so let me know good or bad. all i know is that so far so good!
thanks!
I've had a Voyager for several years. Its not an inertia controller though.. the Prodigy is the newer version. I ditched my Voyager about 9 months ago because of jerky stops. The Prodigy is far superior!
Yea i looked at the prodigy but it was a little more than i wanted to spend at that moment. but it says on the box "Inertia Activated...Proportional Braking System" is there a difference between inertia and inertia activated?
The Prodigy uses inertia control... the harder the controller stops, the more power it sends. The Voyager activates with a steady power level, it doesn't modulate itself based on how hard you stop (like the Prodigy does). I found the rough stops and goes at very low speeds very hard on my trailer and the horses riding in it. My brakes are brand new, the trailer has less than 10k miles on it, so they are very responsive. Just doesn't work with a rough controller like the Voyager. NOT THAT THE VOYAGER DOESN'T WORK, lol... I actually swap the Prodigy back and forth between vehicles, and my Voyager II is now back in service. Its fine for trailers that don't care about "snapping", like the flatbed or hay trailer. But I need better for the horses, and that's the Prodigy.
The Prodigy was only $95 when I bought it 9 months ago... my Voyager was the same, four years before.
ok thanks a lot for the info! where did you find the prodigy for $95. the local rv places wanted $140 bucks for the prodigy. i paid $80 for the voyager.
On my voyager the green light gets darker yellow the harder i step on it, i had it adjusted so it was nice but now all of a sudden i must have changed it cause it was jerky, had to turn it down so it wouldnt jerk so much. Maybe i just need to mess with it more.

Make sure when you reset it you set level first then the power side. One does effect the other.
That's why I replaced my Voyager II. There is no "low" level... you either have nice smooth opperation, or you have hard stops. With the Prodigy you get both... gental beginnings, hard "panics", and soft release.
I bought mine from one of the sponsers here... I don't recall which.
