Is there any good reason to run your coil circuit through the solenoid "I" terminal on a 70's style streetrod rewire? Assuming you use proper guage wire, is it just adding one more potential failure point to use the "I" terminal? Just curious.

The "I" terminal is only activated when the solenoid is engaged (during starting), in order to bypass the ballast resistance in the feed to the coil. This allows for a hotter spark while cranking, thus easier starting, without burning up the points by running them at 12 volts full-time. Hope this answers your question? Steve
