"I" terminal on a solenoid
The "I" terminal is only activated when the solenoid is engaged (during starting), in order to bypass the ballast resistance in the feed to the coil. This allows for a hotter spark while cranking, thus easier starting, without burning up the points by running them at 12 volts full-time. Hope this answers your question? Steve
