scoutguy,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

The lift pump was redesigned, and either will work just fine.

However, there should have been installation instructions with the new IP.
It is important to follow the instructions or lift pump and possibly engine damage will result.

If it did not have instructions, post back before you install it.

Just replacing the lift pump at this time not the IP. It seems pretty straightforward from what I can tell the arm rides under the cam from the wear marks on the arm. If there is something I'm missing let me know. There's not a whole lot of room to get the 1 nut started while holding the arm up against the lobe. Any thoughts on an easier way would be helpful.

Sorry, I meant to say lift pump.

The lobe on the cam has to be at the lowest position when the lift pump arm is installed.

How can you tell if the cam is at its lowest point?

You have to use a mirror to look in as you turn the engine.
