Glow Plug Control Module - MI
New to the site, and am hoping that someone can answer my questions. My husband owns an F350 Super Duty 7.3L Diesel truck. He took the truck in earlier this year for a recall, even though the Truck was NOT exhibiting the problems that the recall was for. The dealership that he took it into replace the cam and now the truck is having ALL kinds of issues. It hard starts, sometimes it dies in the middle of the road (yes, while driving down the highway, the truck has actually stopped running). My husband does tree removal, and uses his truck in his business. Can you imagine what will happen if this truck dies out during the removal of a large willow tree? The dealership says they can't find the problem, even though it took them 20 tries to start and keep the truck running while in their possession.
Here's the problem now. He was on his way home today, and the truck died. The truck wouldn't start, he thought it was the starter, and replaced it. Now, he gets absolutely nothing - no ignition turn over, no lights on the dashboard, nothing. He has cleaned the battery cables, made sure the starter was in the correct position, etc.
In the starter box was instructions on checking the Glow Plug Control Module. No idea where that is. Can anybody tell me where that might be, and let me know what else we should try to resolve this stalling out issue?
Greatly appreciate it!!
Thank you,
Ann
The recall you are refering to was not for the cam but for the cam position sensor, which when it fails will cause all the syptoms you were describing before the replacement of the starter. Most likley they replaced it with the incorrect style sensor OR the connector is not making good contact. Either way I cannot see why they could not find the problem unless they are just completly unfamilliar with the powerstrokes. Long story short, find a different dealer.
As far as your current problems it sounds like an electrical problem to me, you need to check ALL the fuses and relays in the power distribution box (the one under the hood not under the dash) If that does not fix the problem I would GUESS it would be in the ignition switch but like I said without bieng able to diagnose it hands on that is just a guess.
By the way, if the glow plug relay was bad the starter would turn over but the truck wouldn't start when it's cold.
Hope this helps.
