Just got the factory oil pressure gauge working on my '66 F250 and wondering if it's reading a correct signal. Motor has about 100,000 on it and the pressure is showing about 30psi when cold and about 20psi when warm. I'm using 20w-50 oil. Is this about what I should see under these conditions or is the gauge and/or the switch possibly faulty...or are my main bearings starting to show their age?? TIA
if you're still showing that kind of oil pressure at 100,000 miles then i would say that your engine is in fine condition. and maybe a litle above normal at that age. these engines weren't real reliable after 80,000 miles. Dutch
My truck has 90000 on it and it never goes past the center. I forget now what than number is but its less than thirty psi. When warm at idle in slow traffic it drops off to nothing but the light never comes on. I have never checked it with a mechanical gauge. Been this way for seven years now so its normal.
Anyone ever notice that the factory "idiot lite" only comes on at about 15 psi?
Kinda scary, how many people let engines go thinking that they had enough pressure.
