Need help Iam having trouble with voltage jumping around it will read 14 then 14.5 up and down also headlights go bright then dim while driving. I have checked battery ground and regulator ground. I have no amp or volt guage wired in truck. Here is how my regulator is wired. F on regulator to f on alt. A regulator to start solinoid. I on regulator to ignition switch. S not hooked up. Ive been told to hook ignition wire to s termanial since I have no guage and not use the I termanal, Does this sound ok. Should I wire in a volt guage if so how do I wire regulator. Could a bad battery cause voltage to jump? Thanks for your Help.
The I terminal is not used with a stock ammeter. This setup uses +12 from the ignition switch to the S terminal. This allows the field relay to operate and voltage is supplied to the field terminal and the alt starts working.
An idiot light system uses the I terminal to the charge indicator light and also needs the stator connector on the alt to be connected to the S terminal of the regulator. You could try this but I would use the Ign switch to the S terminal and disconnect the I terminal. Let us know how it works out.
