battery light

i have an 05 f150 4.6 xlt. About a week ago, when i was driving home from work, my battery light went on, I looked that symbol up in the manual and it said that the battery is not charging right. So I went to autozone and had the guy plug their machine into my truck and figure out what was wrong with it. he said my battery, alternator and my starter were fine! the leads to the battery are not corroded at all and look new. I also got the same thing from oriellys, a local mechanic, and the local ford dealership can't figure out what is wrong.

Also the night before this started happening, i had to replace a bulb in my left tail light.

Some people have told me i just need a new battery, other say the wiring is bad and a sensor is out or something like that, or the computer is just throwing codes.

what could it be? how can i fix this?

thanks
Jimbo

Is the light still on? Have you tried to disconnect the neg terminal and clear the light and codes. See if it comes back. Might just be a fluke. Your bat volt may have dropped and set a false code.

the battery is 3 years old. is it just not sending enough voltage making the computer throw that code?

take a voltage meter and put it across the terminals. Then have some start the truck and watch the voltage drop. If it drops more than 2.5 -3 volts the battery is on the way out. It usually means you have one cell that is going bad

I don't know, I still have the original battery in my 04 (build date 6/04) and I don't have the light. But like Pohlmeyr says, maybe you have a bad cell. I do plan on replacing mine before this winter. Don't want to push my luck any more than I have too....
