Quick trip to my dads (6 miles) turns into a 2 hour ordeal with a tow truck. At least we weren't on our way to Montana or something...
I thought it was running funny getting on the freeway and then it overheated pegged th gauge, the warning light said it was going into low power mode (or something like that) and I pulled off. No coolant leaking or appeared to be missing after it cooled down a bit. It really didnt appear to be that hot.
A sensor maybe? A common problem maybe?
Its not a good feeling seeing my big, bad truck (baby) on the back of a tow truck. Finally got to use 4-wheel low...pulling onto the flat bed.
Yesterday they said they couldnt communicate with the computer and it turned out to be a fuse. They got that fixed... This morning they said the computer says it ran up to 258 degrees, but no codes.
Today they cant get it to overheat... ie: there is nothing wrong that they can see.
Whats the process to diagnose an overheating problem? Should they drain the coolant?
Turns out this TSB is what they are doing. Not sure why they (and me) waited 2 full days to look for TSBs... Hopefully this isnt one of those problems and TSBs that you chase around in circles.
Anybody have this done and had any more "overheating" issues?
I just looked at my cross over (or under since it goes under the alt) tube/pipe and man it's not very big. Anyone seen the new one from the TSP? I'm going to check with Ford on a price along with a t-stat. If for nothing else but piece of mind when towing.
Yes! have the same problem now, have changed cylinder temp sensor, contector to the sensor, changed coolant temp sensor, changed thermostat and flush out radiador. and i get a code that says P1299 ( autozone checked the code for me).

This thread is almost 2 years old, and it has to do with a known issue on the 3-valve engine.
