What are these?

Can anyone tell me what these things are? The first is a picture of a bolt that hangs down on the passenger side behind the rear axle. The next is a valve of some sort mounted to the rear axle on the drivers side. It has a rubber hose coming in at the top, metal lines on each side that go to the brakes and a broken hose coming off the back. What are these things?

Pic #1 is the bolt that hangs down for your spare tire hangar bracket, there was one on the other frame rail which connected to the other end of the bracket. The obvious ...is that your spare is missing ..because you can see just the bolt hanging!! lol
Pic # 2 is a vent for the rear diff. it is hollow through the center and doubles as a mounting point for your brake line 'T' from the rubber flex to the rigid line along the diff., cut back that hose and re-attach it or better yet replace it, you do not want s@%# getting in the diff. from that open hole.

The first pic is your brake line block on the rear axle. Brake line from the master cylinder goes to the rear where it hooks into the rubber hose that is part of the block. Then the two brake lines for each rear wheel. The hose coming out of the top is your vent hose.

The bottom pic of that bolt, I'm not sure.

That's weird that your posts didn't go through. I thought that bolt had something to do with the spare tire bracket, but didn't know for sure, so I didn't post that. Cool.

Yeah, vent hose and spare tire hanger. Looks like you need to fix that hose, it helps keep water and dirt out of the diff.

Thanks

I saw a picture of a spare tire hanger on another truck but the bolts were alot longer. Maybe the bracket for this truck is offset to accommodate for the bolt lenght. Its only about 3-4" long. I took it off for the time being till I can get the other parts. Took it off while I had the gas tank off replacing the filler hose and vend. Dang that hose is expensive ($25 a foot at Oreally's Rude and crude constant phone ringing no parts we'll have to order it even though its the most common truck on the road store). As for the rear end vent. What does it vent? Why does it need to vent? There is dirt in the hole that I will carefull get out and then I will replace the hose. Thanks for the help. Now if I can just get the bumper on. Does anyone have any advice for drilling through the inch of steel someone welded on for extra support (best bit). I plan on bolting it on with grade 8 bolts. My gas mileage will probably drop cause its so heavy. Then I have to fix my wifes blazer, its had 4 new fuel pumps, a new gas cap and wiring harness on it. Runs now but the S.E.L. comes on intermittently.

The rear end is full of Oil and air. When you drive the truck, the heat makes the oil expand, and become thinner, therefore displacing air, and it has to go somewhere. The Air is vented to the atmosphere. When the rear end cools down, air is taken back into it.

If the vent wasn't there, the rear end would pressurize and you would blow the seals.

I took that vent fitting off and was surprised to find it was just holding the brake fitting to the axle. I took it off and cleaned it real good and reinstalled with a new hose. I did notice I was leaking rear end fluid and it hasn't been that long since it was rebuilt. I checked the bolts to the cover and they weren't very tight. Tightened them up a bit. We will see how that goes. Thanks for the explanation. Now time to get that bumper on.
