1953 Ford F-100 Cab (Rebuild)

I have had couple of threads earlier, talking about Dave Doyle's 1953 Ford F-100 Cab restoration project. This post is an update. I now have the cab in the shop and have had a chance to closely examine it. I think we should look for a better cab, but have little if any idea what one might cost (a good solid one). Also, I am wondering if the 53, 54, and 55 cabs are all identical, the base cab that is, without trim, dash, and etc.

Can someone give us some advice about how similar these three cab years are and what you think we would have to pay for a good one

Thanks, Jerry

Here are some pics of the existing cab, I have seen worse, and am fairly sure it can be salvaged, just not sure it's the right thing to do.

PS I have put a wanted add out on this site. Also, have found a 54 cab on Ebay which looks fairly good for $1,200, but am not sure it works on a 53 ?????????

The 53-55 cabs are the same structurally and feature wise.

only the trim is different.. the vin tag is on the glovebox door, so nothing else says year on the cab.

Looks better than what I started with, my floor was swiss cheese toeboard and front sections. both rear corners (inner & outer were gone).. little rust at the drip rail, about where the passenger would be.

Is the Ebay truck $1200 for the whole truck? I have always found that things look much better in photos than in real life. Can you go look at it? So many people just bondo up the cab corners or other areas and that's tough to discern from a photo. I prefer to patch a floor any day over replacing cab or cowl corners. Very seldom do you find one without rust through so by repairing what you have you at least know you have a good one when finished. I would be concerned about any rust through in the drip rail area or cab seams. Panels to repair corner and floors are readily available. As stated above, 53-55 all interchange except for some trim items. Good luck.

In a previous post you said that you already are in possession of most of the patch panels needed. From the pictures your cab looks better than a lot that I have seen, including the one I am trying to rebuild. here is an example of the rust on mine.

The price is for the cab, doors, and includes all the glass. However, without going out to the east coast, you are depending on the seller to be honest about the repairs that have been made. Don't want to make the trip and then be disapointed and would not buy a pig in a poke so to speak.
