i've gotta 97 F150 4x4 5spd 4.2L engine. i need to change out the rear axle and i would like to know if the one out of this other truck will work. the other truck is a 97 F150 4x4 automatic 4.6L engine. the code on my rear end is this:
S862B
3 55 88 6619
and the code on the other trucks rear end is this:
S862B
3 55 88 7E05
can someone tell me if these are interchangeable and what the numbers on these tags actually mean. and what these gear ratios are.
EDIT:
I didn't see that you were changing the complete axle until I read your post again........... They're the same.
S862B is the BOM (Bill of Materials) number, used to identify the specific axle.
3 55 is the ratio ( a limited slip version would be 3L55).
88 means it's an 8.8 axle (ring gear size)
6619/7E05 Are date codes.
Here's axle shaft info in case you ever need it.
