need advice for ignition switch to toggle switch conversion.
a few months ago i turned the ignition switch on my bronco and it wouldnt stop cranking the starter. needless to say the switch is shot. im starting the rebuild process but im gonna drive it and rebuild it at the same time since winter is here and ill need a 4x4. i was thinking of insted of just getting a new switch, id put a couple of toggle switches on the panel and use them to start and run the truck.
my question is : is this as easy as cutting a few wires and running them to the switches or is it more involved than that? security is not an issue. im trying to avoid dismanteling the steering column and hoped i could just cut the wires under the dash and run them to the switches.

Just by-pass the starter part.
You need the key function in RUN to allow the resistance to the coil and ignition mod so you don't burn the coil out.
Just interrupt the start postion with a start Button under the dash.
Run two wires from the switch to the starter solenoid.
One to the Battery side and One to the "S" terminal.
Everytime you push the button, the engine turns over.
If the key is in the run position, it will start and run.

Ice,
I had this exact problem a few years ago. It's not the ignition switch. It's the starter solinoid. The contact's wear down from the high cranking current and tack weld together. Tapping it with a screwdriver will sometimes break them back apart.
Before I starting any Mod's to the ignition switch I would replace the solinoid. They are relatively cheap and are easy to change.

The ignition switch isn't in the coloumn. It's ad the base of the column connected by a rod to the key cylinder. It wouldn't be necessary to dismantle the column to replace the ignition switch.
