F 150 lol, depends on what you want to do. Either way syn oil in the engine differentials transmission transfer case, tune up, those are gimmies other then that off road or street require different directions.
I have the 3.0L v6. Im looking for any type of upgrades really, speed, perfomance etc. I have some extra cash left over from my OT at work and I figured I want to beef up my ranger.
If you are wanting to race it, then like Pablo sugest, with a ford small block V-8. We have a few that run at our local drag strip, some have the 5.0, a couple have a 351 windsor and one runs a turbo 2.3 out of a thunder bird turbo coupe. There fast and exciting to watch. There's not much you can do with the 3.0, it's just not meant for speed. If you have a 4.0, super six motor sports has all kinds of go fast goodie's for it.
If not a small block V8, you need a forced induction system, which is not really available in a prefabricated kit for most years. In addition, some interanl modifications to the engine would be needed, forged pistons, stronger crank and connecting rods. The system would bee to be custom built and would in all probability cost more than a larger engine.
Ford 5.0L, preferably from a 1995 - 1998 Explorer or Bronco. If you don't want fuel injection, you could really go for any year, but for street use and maintainence simplicity, fuel injection is desireable, plus you don't have to constantly retune. The best way to get one is to buy a wrecked vehicle that has the powertrain intact. Use the trans from the donor vehicle, and swap over the computer, wiring, and sensor, and anything else you find you might need. When you are all done, scrap the donor to get some of your money back.
So forced induction, I doubt you will find many people with practical experience, so I don't recommend pursuing that.
Alright thanks, I think this weekend im going to go down to the local yard and see if I can find one of those Ford 5.0L's. Would I have todo any body work to the car to have the engine fit?

You shouldn't as explorers also had the 5.0, and they have/had the same front clip.
No, there's no body work required to swap in the 5.0. You could also use the 5.0 from an 88-94 mustang or thunder bird. The mustang 5.0 has a roller cam.
james duff enterprises has all the conversion parts you would need to swap a 5.0 into the ranger, like headers, motor mounts and tranny brace and so on.
