Whoooaa!!!

Anybody seen a truck bed like this?!! I like the comment: "the truck is in overall great shape" and "the pictures tell the story" Makes me want to buy some Por15!

Whoa, I cant believe you could get that kind of corrosion or rust from an '02.

I wonder what's been in the bed to wear off the paint and anodized coating....

common site up here..when a truck is under coated they never spray inside the cross members...salt and water gets sprayed in there from the rear tires and doesnt get a chance to dain so it eats it way through the bed...

I've seen that (to a lesser extent) even here in Colorado.
The whole undercarriage and driveline of my truck had surface rust when it was brand new. Between the "exotic" mix of chemicals in the air and on the roads and the lower quality of steel (despite the advances in metalurgy) corrosion is more of a problem now than 10 yrs ago.

This looks like the culprit.

I wonder if there wasn't one of those hard bedliners in the bed.

I mean, mine has bare metal scratches that havent even got rust on them after 2 years of exposure.

I'm thinking a bed liner might have trapped moisture against the metal and forced the process ahead.

Rust like that makes me glad I live in Arizona.

I was thinking of Rhino-lining my bed. If I do I may just pull the bed off and do the underside as well. I may not live in AZ forever.

Yep its from a V bed salter. you should see the 99s that my Dad has. they have holes big enough for a softball to fall through. He tosses in a hard plastic bedliner during the summer so the floor doesnt fall out hauling mulch in the summer, lol.

That is exactly what caused it. The sanders sit on wooden skids. The wood soaks up the salt and it sits there and rots the metal. I have to weld a new floor on a f550 dump for some one because of this.

That rusted bed is a small price to pay considering what the rates for salting parking lots up here in the NE are. Salting pays far more than plowing does and if you ever want to get a call from you customers, its a call to come and salt that you want. People like to shop in snow storms and do not like to walk on ice. Iced parking lot means no sales for the stores. THat bed paid for itself more than 20 times I bet.

It should have paid for some Rhino guard first though.
