i would imagine that a "sprayed-in bed liner" (Rhino or Line-X) on top and heavy undercoating under the bed may have been a start to keep the bed in better shape.
I have an 02 that has gone through 6 chicago winters and is in Awesome shape still

I'll bet the rest of the truck looks the same underneath.
Oil pan, brake lines, differential covers, even the frame itself.
For $6000.00 it would be a good investment for the drivetrain parts, but throw the rest of it away!
